Arguably the most famous fighter of WWII was the German Messerschmitt Bf 109.

Its modification Bf 109F–4 with more powerful armament, improved armor and other upgrades first appeared in June 1941. Some of the Bf 109F–4/R6 aircraft were equipped with two MG 151/15 guns in containers and served in I./JG 52 in the south sector of the Eastern front in Summer 1942.
