The D51 steam locomotive was manufactured mainly as a freight locomotive between 1936 and 1945, with 1,115 units manufactured, making it the largest number of JNR locomotives manufactured. It was used throughout the country and was also affectionately known as "Degoichi". It was used not only for freight trains but also for towing passenger trains and mixed trains.

The power pack uses the high-output (1.2A) "Power Pack Standard SX" and "AC adapter for starter set". The design of the included power pack has been changed to black.
